LIST OF ISSUES
Making Covington Schools a top choice for ALL of Covington's kids
All of Covington's kids deserve a district focused on meeting them where they are and challenging them there. In this way every child can grow and achive their full potential
Supporting the Whole Child
Supporting Whole kids means we measure their growth not only as a test score, but also their creativity, citizenship, physical and emotional health. Their success in life will be whatever they define it as, not as society defines it.
Public education in Covington is uniquely positioned to provide authentic life skills and opportunities which increase the wholeness of our students,
Investment in Educational Infrastructure
Our District must continually invest in our school facilties, from emergency repairs to providing facilities to attract students and teachers.
A highly effective board should have expertise available on the board to objectively evaluate the advice the board is receiveing from our consultants and staff. Without this, the board is more likely to make decisions based on the last opinion in the room, instead of knowing wen a second opinion is needed or when an investment is not meeting the Districts priorities.
As an architect with almost 25 years experience, I will bring professionalism to our board to make better decisions when it comes to investing in our infrastructure.
SMART Strategic Planning
As an architect, I know in order to do BIG things you need a plan. Our district needs a SMART Strategic Plan, that identifies where we are, where we need to be for our community, and the steps we will tak eto get there. SMART planning is an acronym that means its Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-based - put simply, it provides focus and accountability for our district.
Restoring Confidence and Building Trust through Communication
In order to restore confidence and build trust in our public schools, we must start with a reimagining of community engagement. From working more closely with City government to placing interested community members on our District's committees, we can focus our communites attention in constructive ways benefit our schools. From incentivizing teachers to live in our neighborhoods to connecting all of our strudents to relevant college and career resources in our community.
We also need to promote our schools to our community, through open houses, showcases, and parent camps. These events celebrate the great things happening in our schools and provide moments of feedback from our community.
Recruiting Families & Retaining Teachers
In the end, we must remember that what makes are schools special will be the life-long relationships our school foster between the student and the teacher. After the student's family, this relationship is likely to be one of the most profound of the childhood. We must steward a District of schools which families choose to invest their children in, and a District which attracts and retains gifted educational leaders who will be role models to our children for their entire lives.
